Habitat and Description: In open higher areas around Live Oak hummocks; soils of Galveston Mustang complex; Schizachyrium-dominated open disturbed prairie; associated with Froelichia drummondii, Chamaechrista fasciculata. Rare along edges of Oak Hummocks. Soil very hard packed and laced with Oak runners. [Mayfield (1994) more specifically annotated as L. elegans var. carizzana (arrow towards] L. pycnostachya, and added directly on sheet: "Parent? Possibly a Backcross". He considers this a member of a L. pycnostachya X elegans var. carizzana hybrid situation; see also Mayfield 1532, 1533, 1534 for complete hybrid series.].
