Habitat and Description: Rare in soils mapped as moderately deep, well-drained, slightly acid fine sandy loam (Bonti Series, Udic Palestalfs) but looking in the field more like calcareous clay loam, midgrass grassland with considerable bare soil and marl exposures. Associates include Bouteloua pectinata, Hymenoxys scaposa, Penstemon cobaea, Echinacea angustifolia, Eriogonum longifolium, Euphorbia spathulata.
