Locality: United States, Texas, Hidalgo, Shrubs 6-8 ft. tall; rare in well drained, limy, calcareous fine sandy loam Aridic Ustochrepts (McAllen Series) over gravel and caliche of Goliad Formation (Pliocene), in mixed thorny shrubland on undulating upland, more common along minor drainages, 50-500 ft. north of old Military Highway, 300-500 ft. west of Sam Fordyce Rd., ca. 1.7-1.8 airmiles southeast of jct. US Rt. 83 and FM 886 at Sullivan City. Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge Sam Fordyce North Tract. Sullivan City Quadrangle.

Habitat and Description: Woody associates include: Acacia berlandieri, Acacia rigidula, Aloysia macrostachya, Castela erecta spp. texana, Celtis pallida, Cordia boissieri, Croton humilis, Croton incanus, Diospyros texana, Ericameria austrotexana, Eysenhardtia texana, Forestiera angustifolia, Guaiacum angustifolium, Karwinskia humboltiana, Lantana sp., Leucophyllum frutescens, Lippia graveolens, Macrosiphonia macrosiphon, Parkinsonia texana, Phaulothamnus spinescens, Prosopis glandulosa, Salvia ballotiflora, Schaefferia cuneifolia, Tiquilia canscens, Virguiera stenoloba, Yucca treculeana, Zanthoxylum fagara.
