Habitat and Description: Common in deep, well-drained slightly acid loamy fine sand (Bastil Series, Udic Paleustalfs), open grassy old field, level upland underlain Quaternary terrace deposits. Associates include Lechea mucronata, L. tenuiflora, Monarda punctata, Chamaecrista fasciculata, Andropogon virginicus, A. ternarius, Stylosanthes biflora, Heterotheca pilosa, Rudbeckia hirta, Ambrosia psilostachya, Croton capitatus, Helianthemum sp., Oenothera rhombipetala.
