Habitat and Description: Trees or large shrubs branching from base; frequent in mixed evergreen/deciduous forest or woodland on acid clay loam on terrace of nearly perennial stream and on adjacent upland. Associates include Acer negundo, Berchemia scandens, Bumelia lanuginosa, Carya illinoinensis, Celtis laevigata, Forestiera pubescens, Fraxinus pensylvanica, Ilex decidua, I. vomitoria, Juniperus cf. virginiana, Maclura pomifera, Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Quercus buckleyi, Q. fusiformis, Q. stellata, Rhus toxicodendron, Rubus trivialis, Smilax bona-nox, Ulmus americana, U. crassifolia, Vitis berlandieri, V. mustangensis.
