Locality: United States, Texas, Chambers, Interstate Highway 10, at Old River Bridge (Intersection with FM 565). Elev. 25 ft.
Habitat and Description: Disturbed ground on flood plain of river, under bridge. Buff clay with shell fragments, silt and sand. Grass-sedge complex. Perennial herb, 3 m. Upright in large tufts of ca. 20 culms. Very woody rhizome. Outer glumes purple on backs, giving purplish cast to inflorescence.
