Habitat and Description: Common, visual dominant in grassy diverse ground layer of fire-maintained pine savanna o poorly to moderately well drained, strongly acid, very sandy loam over Beaumont Formatoin, level upland. Associates include Andropogon gerardii, Aristida longespica, A. purpurascens, Bigelowia nuttallii, Boltonia diffusa, Eryngium yuccifolium, Eupatorium rotundifolium, Heleastrum hemisphaericum, Helianthus angustifolius, Liatris acidota, L. aspera, L. squarrulosa, Manfreda virginica, Oxypolis rigidior, Panicum anceps, P. virgatum, Paspalum floridanum, P. setaceum, Pityopsis graminifolia, Polypremum procumbens, Pycnanthemum albescens, P. tenuifolium, Phynchosopora sp., Pschizachyrium scoparium, Scleria reticularis, Solidago nitida, S. odora.
