Habitat and Description: Occasional in shallow sandy to clayey soil over caliche (Ogalalla Formation), in grassland on unshaded outcrop on on top of bluff. Associates include Bouteloua gracilis, Melampodium leucanthum, jOenothera brachycarpa, Dalea purpurea, D. jamesii, Hymenoxys acaulis var. acaulis, H. scaposa var. glabra, Eriogonum lachnogynum, Lesquerella ovalifolia, Psilostrophe villosa, Calylophus hartwegii, Echinacea angustifolia, Paronychia jamesii, P. sessilifolia, Penstemon fendleri.
