Habitat and Description: Frequent in grassland/mesquite savanna on loamy soils of Permian plain in northern quarter of camp. Soils: deep, gently sloping, well drained, calcareous, moderately alkaline, loamy Typic Ustochrepts (Shep Series) and clay loam Typic Calciustolls (Quanah Series). Geology: mudstones, etc. of Clear Fork Group (Permian). Associates include Berberis trifoliolata, Ephedra antisyphilitica, Juniperus ashei, J. pinchotii, Mimosa biuncifera, Prosopis glandulosa, Rhus lanceolata, R. microphylla, R. trilobata, Yucca constricta, Ziziphus obtusifolius, Bothriochloa saccharoides, Buchloe dactyloides, Elymus canadensis, Erioneuron pilosum, Hilaria belangeri, Sporobolus asper, Stipa leucotricha, Tridens, muticus, Ambrosia psilostachya, Aphanostephus ramosissimus, Berlandiera lyrata, Chrysopsis canescens, Cirsium ochrocentrum, Clematis drummondii, Croton pottsii, Dyschoriste linearis, Echinacea angustiflolia, Engelmannia pinnatifida, Euphorbia lata, Gaillardia pulchella, Hedyotis nigricans, Hymenopappus scabiosaeus var. corymbosus, Krameria lanceolata, Machaeranthera pinnatifida, Matelea biflora, Melampodium leucanthum, Pinaropappus roseus, Siphonoglossa pilosella, Teucrium laciniatum, Thelesperma filifolium, T. megapotamicum, Verbena bipinnatifida, V. plicata, V. halei.
