Habitat and Description: Common in well drained, neutral dark clay Udic Chromosterts (Crawford Series) in openings in live oak - cedar elm - post oak - juniper woodland on +/- level upland underlain by Glen Rose Limestone. Associates include Buchloe dactyloides, Hilaria belangeri, Carex planostachys, Schizachyrium scoparium, Sorghastrum nutans, Krigia gracilis, Hedeoma acinoides, Phlox roemeriana, P. cuspidata, Valerianella amarella, Hymenoxys linearifolia, Matelea biflora, Lesquerella gracilis, Brazoria scutellaroides, Opuntia macrorhiza, Galium virgatum.
