Habitat and Description: Occasional in deep, well drained, slightly acid, fine sandy loam Udertic Paleustalfs (Axtell Series) over Calvert Bluff Formation (Eocene), in large grassland opening in post oak-eastern red cedar woodland on hilltop. Associates include Agrostis elliottiana, A. hiemalis, Briza minor, Carex complanata, Fimbristylis puberula, Hordeum pusillum, Juncus marginatus, Rhynchospora harveyi, Schizachyrium scoparium, Scleria triglomerata, Stipa leucotricha, Baptisia leucophaea, Callirhoe involucrata, Calylophus drummondianus, Castilleja indivisa, Daucus pusillus, Erigeron strigosus, Gaillardia aestivalis, Hedeoma hispidum, Helianthemum rosmarinifolium, Hymenopappus artemisiifolius, Linum hudsonioides, L. medium var. texanum, Lupinus subcarnosus, Oenothera laciniata, Plantago rhodosperma, P. patagonica var. spinulosa, Polygala incarnata, Pyrrhopappus carolinianus, Rudbeckia hirta, Rumex hastatulus, Sabatia campestris, Triodanis biflora.
