Habitat and Description: Small shrub or suffrutescent herb 1-2 ft. tall. Frequent along unshaded margin of subtropical thorn shrubland in deep, well drained, calcareous, moderately alkaline, saline clay loam Ustollic Camborthids (Point Isabel Series) on top of Pleistocene clay dune (loma). Woody associates include Amyris madrensis, Atriplex acanthocarpa, Borrichia frutescens, Bumelia celastrina, Capsicum annuum, Castela texana, Celtis pallida, Chiococca alba, Cissus incisa, Citharexylum berlandieri, Condalia hookeri, Croton humilis, Dalea scandens var. pauciflora, Ericameria austroptexana, Eupatorium odoratum, Forestiera angustifolia, Karwinskia humboldtiana, Isocoma drummondii, Jatropha dioica, Lantana horrida, Lycium carolinianum, Maytenus phyllanthoides, Phaulothanmus spinescens, Prosopis glandulosa, P. reptans, Randia rhagocarpa, Schaefferia cuneifolia, Trixis inula, Yucca treculeana, Zanthoxylum fagara, Ziziphus obtusifolius.
