Habitat and Description: Frequent in shallow, well drained, slightly acid, sandy loam Alfisols, in openings in post oak woodland on rocky upland. Associates include Ascyrum hypericoides, Cercis canadensis, Forestiera pubescens, Fraxinus texensis, Juniperus virginiana, Lonicera albiflora, Quercus marilandica, Q. stellata, Rhus trilobata, R. toxicodendron var. eximia, Ulmus crassifolia, Carex muhlenbergii, Coelorachis cylindrica, Cyperus filiculmis, Dichanthelium lanuginosum, D. linearifolium, Elymus canadensis, Fimbristylis puberula, Juncus marginatus, Schizachyrium scoparium, Sorghastrum nutans, Amsonia ciliata, Artemisia ludoviciana, Cirsium undulatum, coreopsis wrightii, Erigeron strigosus,Gaillardia pulchella, Galium pilosum, Hedyotis crassifolia, Helianthemum sp., Krameria lanceolata, Lechea san-sabeana, Monarda punctata, Oenothera laciniata, Penstemon laxiflorus, Phlox drummondii, Psoralidium tenuiflorum, Rudbeckia hirta, Ruellia humilis, Sabatia campestris, Tradescantia ohiensis, Verbena pumila.
