Habitat and Description: In sandy soil, loose grey sand over hard red sand/sandstone. Quercus marilandica - Q. stellata sandhill woodland, with openings dominated by Schizachyrium scoparium; Carrizo Formation. Most of population behind fence in grazed area. Very common; sympatric with Liatris punctata var. mucronata; one F1 hybrid found. [Mayfield wrote directly on sheet: "Parent Taxon". Putative parent of L. punctata var. punctata X L. elegans var. carizzana hybrid. See Mayfield 1561 & 1562 for hybrid and other parent.].
