Habitat and Description: Edge of sandhill woodland in Schizachyrium-dominated grassland; associates include Quercus stellata, Q. nigra, Q. marilandica, Sassafras albidum, Carya texana, Ilex decidua, and Gaillardia aestivalis var. aestivalis; lower Queen City Sand formation. Phyllaries yellow grading upwards to cream or salmon-pink grading to lilac or mauve; common of edge of woods in loose white sand.
