Habitat and Description: Rare in open grassy loblolly pine plantation (former longleaf pine savanna) on dry sandy soil on S-facing upper slope of convex ridgetop underlain by Catahoula Formation. Herbaceous associates include Ambrosia psilostachya, Aristolochia reticulata, Baptisia leucophaea, Berlandiera pumila, Bigelowia nuttallii, Chrysopsis graminifolia, Croton argyranthemus, Dichanthelium spp., Eupatorium compositifolium, Euphorbia corollata, Ionactis linariifolius, Panicum virgatum, Pteridium aquilinum, Rhynchosia americana, Schizachyrium scoparium, Scleria ciliata, Stillingia sylvatica, Stylosanthes biflora, Tephrosia onobrychoides, Tragia smallii, T. urens, T. urticifolia.
