Habitat and Description: Some culms 8 ft. tall; rare, a few patches in shallow moist sand over claypan, in shade of Quercus stellata and Ulmus alata in seasonally inundated swamp forest. Associates include Agrostis perennas, Persicaria punctata, Solidago ulmifolia, Eupatorium serotinum, Pycnanthemum tenuifolium, Leersia virginica, L. oryzoides, Lycopus sp., Juncus coriaceus, Panicum anceps, Aster subulatus, Commelina virginica.
