Occasional in open low shrubland on xeric limestone or caliche bluff and slope. Woody associates include Acacia berlandieri, Berberis trifoliolata, Calliandra conferta, Condalia viridis, Croton dioicus, Dalea formosa, Diospyros texana, Dyssodia acerosa, Forestiera angustifolia, Guaiacum angustifolium, Heliotropium torreyi, Lantana macropoda, Mimosa borealis, M. texana, Nolina texana, Salvia ballotiflora.
