Habitat and Description: Common in saturated sandy soil in bald cypress-tupelo swamp, foot of beech-magnolia slope. Associates include Fraxinus americana, Ilex coriacea, Itea virginica, Maglonia virginiana, Nyssa aquatica, Quercus nigra, Rhus toxicodendron, Smilax laurifolia, Taxodium distichum, Apteria aphylla, Athyrium filix-foemina, Chasmanthium laxum, Dichanthelium ensifolium, Lycopus sp., Osmunda cinnamomea, Osmunda regalis, Rhynchospora sp., Saururus cernuus, Triadenum sp., Woodwardia areolata, Xyris sp.
