Habitat and Description: Common in loose deep gray sand or sandy loam (Patilo Series) in open post oak-bluejack oak-loblolly pine woodland on upland. Herbaceous associates include Sytlisma pickeringii, Thelesperma flavodiscum, Paronychia drummondii, Euphorbia cordifolia, Matelea cynanchoides, Baptisia leucophaea, Diodia teres, Froelichia sp., Lithospermum carolinense, Petalostemum microphyllum, Zornia bracteata, Sida lindheimeriana, Schrankia uncinata, Polypremum procumbens, Selaginella riddellii.
