Habitat and Description: Frequent in well drained, limy, calcareous fine sandy loam Aridic Ustochrepts (McAllen Series) over gravel and caliche of Goliad Formation (Pliocene), openings in mixed thorny shrubland on undulating upland. Woody associates include Acacia berlandieri, Acacia rigidula, Aloysia macrostachya, Castela erecta ssp. texana, Celtis pallida, Cordia boissieri, Croton humilis, Croton incanus, Diospyros texana, Ericameria austrotexana, Eysenhardtia texana, Forestiera angustifolia, Guaiacum angustifolium, Karwinskia humboldtiana, Lantana sp., Leucophyllum frutescens, Lippia graveolens, Macrosiphonia macrosiphon, Parkinsonia texana, Phaulothamnus spinescens, Pithecellobium pallens, Prosopis glandulosa, Salvia ballotiflora, Schaefferia cuneifolia, Tiquilia canescens, Viguiera stenoloba, Yucca treculeana, Zanthoxylum fagara.
