Habitat and Description: Frequent in deep, moderately well drained, slightly acid, loamy Vertic Hapludalfs (Woodtell Series) in open post oak woodland, lower slopes near lake shoreline. Associates include Asclepias tuberosa, A. verticillata, Carex cherokeensis, Desmanthus illinoensis, Echinacea pallida, Elymus canadensis, Eryngium yuccifolium, Gillenia stipulata, Helianthus hirsutus, H. mollis, Manfreda virginica, Monarda russeliana, Pycnanthemum tentuiflorum, Salvia azurea, Schizachyrium scoparium, Silphium laciniantum, Sorghastrum nutans.
