Habitat and Description: Common in shallow sandy to clayey soil over caliche (Ogalalla Formation), in grassland on unshaded outcrop on top of bluff. Associates include Bouteloua gracilis, Melampodium leucanthum, Oenothera brachycarpa, Dalea purpurea, D. jamesii, Hymenoxys acaulis var. acaulis, H. scaposa var. glabra, Eriogonum lachnogynum, Lesquerella ovalifolia, Calylophus hartwegii, Echinacea angustifolia, Paronychia jamesii, P. sessilifolia, Penstemon fendleri, P. abidus.
