Habitat and Description: Locally frequent with H. belangeri in openings in thornscrub on very gravelly calcareous clay over Escondido Formation (Cretaceous), on ridgetop on S side of E-W rd along fenceline. Assc. include Acacia berlandieri, A. rigidula, Heliotropium torreyi, Guaiacum angustifolium, Schaefferia cuneifolia, Leucophyllum frutescens, Castela erecta, Gymnosperma glutinosum, Dyssodia pentachaeta, Aristida sp., Thamnosma texanum, Bouteloua trifida, Wedelia hispida, Tiquilia canescens.
