Habitat and Description: Locally abundant in roadbeds, mown areas and grazed pasture with no standing grass cover, among gopher mounds in mesquite savanna on well-drained loose sandy soils of South Texas Sand Sheet. Associates include Acalypha radians, Aphanostephus skirrhobasis, Chloris cucullata, Coreopsis nuecensoides, Froelichia floridana, Gaillardia pulchella, Galactia canescens, Gamochaeta falcata, Helianthemum sp., Lechea sp., Linaria texana, Lobelia berlandieri, Mitracarpus brevifolius, Oenothera laciniata, Paronychia jonesii, Phacelia austrotexana, Phlox drummondii, Rhynchosia americana, Rudbeckia hirta, Sabatia campestris, Senecio ampullaceus.
