Habitat and Description: Occasional in open Nolina - Hilaria swallenii grassland on level ridgetop with soils covered by dark gray igneous stones and gravel. Associates include Acacia angustissima, Acacia neovernicosa, Berberis trifoliolata, Bouteloua gracilis, Buddleja scordiodes, Condalia ericoides, Croton pottsii, Dasyochloa pulchella, Desmanthus cooleyi, Dyschoriste decumbens, Dyssodia acerosa, Echinocactus horizonthalonius, Ephedra sp., Euphorbia revoluta, Gaura coccinea, Hilaria mutica, Melamposium leucanthum, Mimosa aculeaticarpa, Opuntia sp., Talinum aurantiacum, Zinnia grandiflora.
