Habitat and Description: Common if not abundant in lower quality / more heavily utilized grassland in pasture in mesquite savanna on deep sand of gently undulating landscape of South Texas Holocene Sand Sheet. Rare here in 2002, after a much drier winter. Associates include Aphanostephus skirrhobasis, Centunculus minimus, Chamaecrista texana, Chloris cucullata, Cnidoscolus texanus, Croton spp., Eragrostis secundiflora, Evolvulus alsinoides, Gaillardia amblydon, Lesquerella grandiflora, Lobelia berlandieri, Matelea parviflora, Monarda citriodora, Opuntia spp., Phlox drummondii, Plantago hookeriana, P. rhodosperma, Sabatia campestris, Scutellaria muriculata, Setaria spp., Stillingia sylvatica, Verbina halei, Zornia diphylla.
