Habitat and Description: Brushy flats with stony black soils in highly disturbed Juniper woodland. Associates include Juniperus ashei, Croton, Sophora, Condalia hookeri, and Celtis. Intricately branched shrub 2 m. tall with spine-tipped branchlets. Leaves bright green. Immature frs. red, mature frs black.
