Habitat and Description: Locally frequent among shrubs, oak sprouts and pine seedlings in recent clearcut on deep well drained sandy soils on upper slopes underlain by WIllis Formation. Associates include Ascyrum hypericoides, Asimina parviflora, Callicarpa americana, Carya sp., Castanea pumila, Crataegus sp., Hamamelis virginiana, Pinus sp., Quercus incana, Quercus spp., Sassafras albidum, Yucca louisianica, Ambrosia sp., Croptilon divaricatum, Diodia teres, Gnaphalium pensylvanicum, Heterotheca pilosa, Monarda punctata, Panicum capillare, Pteridium aquilinum, Pycnanthemum albescens, Silene subciliata, Solidago sp., and Vernonia texana.
