Habitat and Description: In level clearing with thin pine duff. Very loose sandy soil. Mature pine-oak woodland with Juniperus, Ilex, Callicarpa, Opuntia, Cnidoscolus, Vitis, Rubus, Rhus toxicodendron. Common perennial 60 cm. tall. Mature bracts reddish-purple.
