Habitat and Description: Young oaks numerous. Pinus taeda-Quercus stellata woodland w. Quercus spp., Ilex, Vitis, Juniperus, Parthenocissus, Smilax, Callicarpus amer., Toxicodendron, Eryngium, Panicum virgatum, and Campsis radicans (escaped). Most common sp. in roadbed here. Erect perennial 50 cm tall. Nodular roots. Bracts chestnut brown, fruits shiny. Attractive.
