Locality: United States, Texas, Presidio, Chinati Mtns. State Natural Area. Boulder Canyon, a large, steep, bowl-shaped igneous area N side of Chinatis, draining off Chinati Peak. Elev. 5358 ft.

Habitat and Description: Open oak-juniper woodland. Associates include Quercus grisea, scattered Q. pungens var. vaseyana, Juniperus, Acacia neovernicosa, A. constricta, Yucca torreyi, Nolina tex., Adolphia, Opuntia lindhiemeri, O. imbricata, Rhus trilobata, Bouteloua curtipendula, and Verbesina. Erect perennial herb 20 cm tall, from a woody rootstock. Buds pink. Fairly common among boulders.
