Habitat and Description: Locally abundant in loamy soils on shaded slopes along old river channel containing no water but nonetheless with numerous large Taxodium and Platanus. Associates include Carya illinoinensis, Celtis laevigata, Cephalanthus occidentalis, Chasmanthium latifolium, Elymus virginicus, Helenium elegans, Ilex decidua, Malvaviscus arboreus, Matelea reticulata, Morus rubra, Muhlenbergia sp., Oplismenus setarius, Panicum virgatum, Paspalum langei, Platanus occidentalis, Salix nigra, Salvia coccinea, Smilax bona-nox, Stipa leucotricha, Teucrium canadense, Ulmus crassifolia, Urtica chamaedryoides, Verbesina virginica, Vernonia baldwinii.
