Habitat and Description: Forming shrub thicket on shallow, well drained, calcareous, moderately alkaline Typic Ustochrepts (Brackett Series) on landscape otherwise supporting mosaic of midgrass grasslands and live oak - juniper woodlands, on undulating upland underlain by Glen Rose Limestone. Associates include Aristida sp., Berberis trifoliolata, Carex planostachys, Cocculus carolinus, Diospyros texana, Eysenhardtia texana, Forestiera pubescens, Juniperus ashei, Opuntia lindheimeri, Parthenocissus heptaphylla, Quercus fusiformis, Rhus virens, Schizachyrium scoparium, Viguiera dentata, Vitis sp., Wedelia hispida.
