Habitat and Description: Frequent shrub in relatively sparse vegetation on tight gravelly somewhat saline clay (Maverick Series) on nearly level area underlain by Pleistocene fluviatile deposits. Associates include Bouteloua trifida, Echinocactus texensis, Hilaria belangeri, Hoffmannseggia drummondii, Isocoma coronopifolia, Jatropha dioica, Prosopis reptans, Sporobolus pyramidatus, Varilla texana, stunted Acacia rigidula, A. schaffneri.
