Locality: United States, Texas, Travis, Firefly meadow, Brackenridge Field Station.
Habitat and Description: Common in open, grassy areas. Soil dry and sandy. Annual growing in dense stands, 19-70cm tall. Stem dark purple-green turning black when dead. Raceme 1-17 branched. Flowers pinkish-purple, opening in the morning and lasting one day. Fruit a globular capsule containing an average of 216 seeds. Pollinated by Bombus pennsylvanicus and Apis mellifera. Voucher for nectar analysis.
