Habitat and Description: Locally common in deciduous forest on deep, moderately well drained, slightly acid fine sandy loam Entisols on faint natural levees along perennial creek between sandy slopes underlain by Sparta Sand. Associates include Botrychium virginianum, Carex cherokeensis, Carex spp., Claytonia virginica, Dichanthelium sp., Galium aparine, Ilex vomitoria, Liquidambar styraciflua, Ophioglossum sp., Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Poa autumnalis, Quercus nigra, Sanicula canadensis, Stellaria media, Ulmus alata.
