Habitat and Description: Common in thorny shrubs on tight gravelly somewhat saline clay (Maverick Series) on nearly level area underlain by Pleistocene fluviatile deposits. Associates include: Bouteloua trifida, Echinocactus texensis, Hilaria belangeri, Hoffmannseggia drummondii, Isocoma coronopifolia, Jatropha dioica, Prosopis reptans, Sporobolus pyramidatus, Varilla texana, stunted Acacia rigidula, A. schaffneri.
