Habitat and Description: Small tree; occasional in mostly deciduous forest on moderate to fairly steep NE-facing slope underlain by Goodland Limestone / Walnut Clay, on S edge of Clear Creek valley. Associates include Carex spp., Cercis canadensis, Cornus drummondii, Dichanthelium spp., Frangula caroliniana, Galium circaezans, Ilex decidua, Juniperus sp., Lonicera albiflora, Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Pellaea atropurpurea, Quercus buckleyi, Q. muhlenbergii, Sanicula canadensis, Sideroxylon lanuginosum, Smilax bona-nox, Stellaria media, Symphoricarpos orbiculatus, Ulmus crassifolia, U. rubra, Ungnadia speciosa, Viburnum rufidulum, Viola sp.
