Habitat and Description: Annual; rays orange-yellow, tridentate at apex, maroon basally; common in gravel and silt in unshaded bed of intermittent or wet-weather stream draining rolling landscape underlain by Cretaceous limestone and supporting prairie vegetation, just upstream from a stock tank in south-central part of ranch. Associates include Amorpha fruticosa, Dracopis amplexicaulis, Eleocharis montevidensis, Fuirena simplex, Helenium elegans, Iva angustifolia, Juncus interior, Muhlenbergia reverchonii, Paspalum distichum, Phalaris caroliniana, Tridens albescens, Xanthium strumarium.
