Habitat and Description: Locally frequent in sparsely vegetated openings in thornscrub shrubland on moderate slopes with exposure of dark reddish-brown sandstone of Weches Formation, on soils mapped as moderately alkaline, calcareous sandy clay loam (Colibro Series). Woody associates in general area include Acacia greggii, A. rigidula, Aloysia gratissima, Baccharis texana, Berberis trifoliolata, Celtis laevigata var. reticulata, Celtis pallida, Colubrina texensis, Condalia hookeri, Diospyros texana, Eysenhardtia texana, Guaiacum angustifolium, Lantana urticoides, Lycium berlandieri, Opuntia lindheimeri, O. leptocaulis, Prosopis glandulosa, Ptelea trifoliata, Salvia ballotiflora, Schaefferia cuneifolia, Sideroxylon lanuginosum, Wedelia texana, Yucca constricta, Y. treculeana, Ziziphus obtusifolius.
