Habitat and Description: Rare shrub in mesquite woodland with dense understory of Tamaulipan thornscrub, level upland on Frio clay loam at upper edge of old river floodplain. Associates include Abutilon fruticosum, Acacia minuata, Aloysia gratissima, Berberis trifoliolata, Capsicum annuum, Celtis laevigata, C. pallida, Cissus incisa, Clematis drummondii, Cocculus carolinus, Colubrina texensis, Condalia hookeri, Diospyros texana, Eysenhardtia texana, Ferocactus setispinus, Fleischmannia incarnata, Ibervillea lindheimeri, Matelea reticulata, Opuntia leptocaulis, O. lindheimeri, Passiflora tenuiloba, Prosopis glandulosa, Rivina humilis, Schaefferia cuneifolia, Setaria leucopila, Sideroxylon lanuginosum, Smilax bona-nox, Talinum paniculatum, Tridens eragrostoides, Ulmus crassifolia, Viguiera dentata, Yucca constricta, Ziziphus obtusifolius.
