Habitat and Description: In grassland on very shallow stony clay loam on slopes and flats in rolling prairie landscape underlain by Cretaceous limestone. Associates include Amsonia ciliata, Bouteloua hirsuta, B. pectinata, Chamaesyce missurica, Houstonia nigricans, Liatris sp., Linum rupestre, Muhlenbergia reverchonii, Nothoscordum bivalve, Schizachyrium scoparium, Paronychia virginica Scutellaria wrightii, Silphium albiflorum, Sporobolus compositus, Stenosiphon linifolius, Stillingia texana, Vernonia lindheimeri, Yucca pallida. Common.
