Habitat and Description: In mostly herbaceous vegetation in old root-plowed area on gravelly saline clay (Catarina soils) on valley flat on gently rolling landscape underlain by mudstones and claystones of the Catahoula and Frio formations (undivided). Vegetation dominated by Pennisetum ciliare, Pappophorum vaginatum, Isocoma coronopifolia, Sporobolus pyramidatus, Varilla texana, Bouteloua trifida, Acacia farnesiana. Other associated included Acacia rigidula, A. schaffneri, Dichanthium annulatum, Gutierrezia texana, Opuntia leptocaulis, O. lindheimeri, Prosopis reptans. Shrub to 1 ft. tall; leaves succulent, terete when fresh; rays absent; disks yellow; common.
