Locality: United States, TEXAS, Starr, Just inside gate on W side of R. M. 3167 at a point about 7.5 roadmiles N of its jct. with US Rt. 83 (on W side of Rio Grande City), ca. 7.2 airmiles N to NNW of same jct., on E edge of Las Estrellas Preserve. Elev. 260ft.

Habitat and Description: In medium- to tall-stature shrubland (thornscrub) on soils mapped as deep, droughty, calcareous, moderately alkaline, highly saline clay Paleustollic Torrerts (Catarina Series), on lower flatter part of gently rolling landscape underlain by Miocene mudstones and claystones of the Catahoula and Frio formation (undivided). Associates included Acacia schaffneri, Castela erecta, Guaiacum angustifolium, Leucophyllum frutescens, Opuntia engelmannii, Parkinsonia texana, Varilla texana, Ziziphus obtusifolia. Shrub to 4 m tall here; frequent.
