Habitat and Description: Component of forb-rich phase of tallgrass prairie grassland vegetation on soils mapped as deep, moderately well drained, slightly acid clay loam Vertic Haplustalfs (Normangee Series), on very gentle slopes underlain by Blossom Sand. Associates included Acacia angustissima, Ambrosia psilostachya, Asclepias verticillata, A. viridis, Baptisia sphaerocarpa, Buchnera floridana, Cirsium sp., Coelorachis cylindrica, Coreopsis tinctoria, D. oligosanthes, Echinacea pallida, Erigeron strigosus, Eryngium yuccifolium, Euphorbia corollata, Helianthus grosseserratus, H. mollis, Juncus marginatus, Liatris pycnostachya, Liatris (other), Mimosa nuttallii, Pycnanthemum tenuifolium, Rosa foliolosa, Rubus sp., Rudbeckia maxima, Ruellia humilis, Salvia azurea, Scleria sp., Silphium laciniatum, S. radula, Sporobolus silveanus, Tripsacum dactyloides. Stems to 7 ft. tall; common.
