Habitat and Description: Along margin of natural pond in old stream meander on floodplain of major stream, on soils mapped as deep, somewhat poorly drained, mildly alkaline clay Vertisols (Kaufman Series). Vegetation a shrubland dominated by Cephalanthus occidentalis, with emergent small trees. Associates included Acer negundo, Campsis radicans, Carex crus-corvi, Carya illinoinensis, Celtis laevigata, Diospyros virginiana, Fraxinus pensylvanica, Galium tinctorium, Gleditsia triacanthos, Justicia ovata var. lanceolata, Mikania scandens, Persicaria sp., Physostegia pulchella, Pluchea sp., Rorippa sessiliflora, Rumex sp., Salix nigra, Steinchisma hians, Teucrium canadense, Tripsacum dactyloides, Ulmus (rubra?), Ulmus alata, Veronica peregrina, Vitis mustangensis, Vitis sp. Occasional.
