Habitat and Description: In open parts of medium-stature thorn shrubland on gravelly clay soils (Catarina Series) on hilltop and upper slopes underlain by Catahoula and Frio formations. Associates include Bouteloua trifida, Acacia rigidula, Castela erecta, Celtis pallida, Forestiera angustifolia, Guaiacum angustifolium, Karwinskia humboldtiana, Krameria ramosissima, Lycium berlandieri, Opuntia leptocaulis, O. lindheimeri, Pennisetum ciliare, Prosopis glandulosa, Schaefferia cuneifolia, Synthlipsis greggii, Wedelia hispida.
