Habitat and Description: In area but locally common in ground layer of mixed woodland in narrow canyon with slopes underlain by Miocene clay and sandstone of Fleming Formation, on soils mapped as moderately deep, well drained sandy clay loam Udic Calciustolls (Carbengle Series). Woodland dominated by Juniperus virginiana and various Quercus spp. Associates included Berchemia scandens, Geum canadense, Ilex vomitoria, Leersia hexandra, Onosmodium bejariense, Oplismenus setarius, Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Paspalum langei, Sanicula canadensis, Smilax bona-nox, S. tamnoides, Symphoricarpos orbiculatus, Yucca aloifolia. Rare.
