Habitat and Description: In mixed evergreen/deciduous closed-canopy woodland on gentle slopes and flat along perennial stream, on soils mapped as very deep, moderately well drained, nonsaline neutral clay Vertisols (Laewest Series), on coastal plain landscape underlain by clays of the Beaumont Formation. Woodland dominated by Ulmus crassifolia, Celtis laevigata, Quercus fusiformis; shrub layer by Callicarpa americana, Ilex vomitoria, Sabal minor; ground layer by Paspalum langei, Carex cherokeensis, Elymus virginicus. Other associates included Allium canadense, Amorpha fruticosa, Ampelopsis arborea, Calyptocarpus vialis, Campsis radicans, Chasmanthium latifolium, Forestiera pubescens, Fraxinus pensylvanica, Malvastrum coromandelianum, Malvaviscus arboreus, Myosotis macrosperma, Quercus nigra, Sanicula canadensis, Sapindus saponaria, Scutellaria ovata, Sophora secundiflora, Smilax bona-nox. Locally frequent.
